The Meadow Steiner School, Bruton Somerset

Meadow School Ethos

The Meadow Steiner School is a young, energetic school which has grown out of the vision of what was at first a small group of parents. We are at a pioneering stage, and our facilities are still modest, but our children benefit from witnessing the growth of their school due to the hard work and commitment that surrounds them.

Our determination has been inspired by the wisdom and contemporary relevance of Rudolf Steiner’s educational philosophy, and how it prepares children for the changing modern world. It aims to give them eternal values, self confidence, a love of learning, an ability to work with others, enduring and adaptable practical skills, rich memories, open and tolerant attitudes. Gifts for life.

We shouldn’t ask: what does a person need to know or be able to do in order to fit into the existing social order?
Rather we should ask: what lives in each person and what can be developed in him or her?
Only then will it be possible to direct the new qualities of each emerging generation into society.
Society will then become what young people, as whole human beings, make out of the existing social conditions.
The new generation should not just be made to become what present society wants it to become.

Rudolf Steiner 1919.
