Welcome
The Meadow Steiner School in Somerset is part of a world wide
network of more than 700 Waldorf Steiner Schools . The seeds of the school
were sown by a small group of parents meeting regularly with their very young
children to play in a meadow. One of these parents was inspired to train
as a kindergarten teacher and in 1993 she opened our first kindergarten.
The school has grown steadily and now offers Steiner education throughout
the pre-school and primary age range. Our aim is to provide education up
to the age of fourteen.
The school offers a holistic education which is based on the educational theories of the Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925). The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the individual children as they grow through different developmental stages, without pushing them too quickly into adulthood or under pressure.
The aim is to nourish the children physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, cultivating confidence in the self and reverence for the world. It fosters their imagination, natural curiosity and love of learning, so that these attributes will last a lifetime. This child-centred education supports the unfolding of the unique potential hidden within each child.
